Sara Svensson and Gergő Medve-Bálint, PhD Candidates at the Doctoral School of Political Science, Public Policy and International Relations, won first prize in an academic essay contest arranged by the Pálfi István Regional Development Foundation and the Central European Service for Cross-Border Initiatives.

Their paper ‘Explaining coverage: why do local governments in Central Europe join (or not join) Euroregions?’ addresses the ability of local political cross-border alliances to attract local governments in the area where they are operating, and is based on more than 70 interviews with decision-makers in the Hungarian-Slovak borderlands.

The prize of 300,000 HUF was awarded at a ceremony in Budapest on November 28, 2011.
