Annual Doctoral Conference features CBS’s Anna Leander at CEU

March 25, 2016

Professor Anna Leander’ lecture on the DAESH recruitment videos will be the highlight of this year’s Annual Doctoral Conference at Central European University. The seven thematic panels of the conference will offer a glimpse into the diverse research that is ongoing at the PhD program in Political Science.

CEU’s Doctoral School of Political Science, Public Policy and International Relations hosts its 2016 Annual Doctoral Conference on Tuesday, 5 April, with renowned guest speakers and exciting conference panels. The one-day fiesta of research papers is taking place on CEU’s main Budapest campus, in the Monument Building. The conference will feature a keynote lecture and seven thematic panels, where the School’s doctoral candidates present their latest research.

This year’s keynote lecture is delivered by Copenhagen Business School’s Anna Leander, whose expertise focuses on the role of business in international politics and especially on the role of private military and security companies. In her keynote lecture professor Leander will talk about the politics of the DAESH recruitment videos and the digital and commercial visibility of the Islamic State.

Other distinguished guest speakers of the conference include Professor Jonathan Wolff from University College London, who will discuss research papers at the Political Theory panel, and Professor Kerem Öktem from the University of Graz, who will be the discussant at the Middle East panels. Panel discussants for the other panels include CEU’s Xymena Kurowska, Carsten Schneider, Michael Dorsch, and visiting professor Matthijs Bogaards.

More information about the program and the composition of the conference panels is available at the conference website, at https://pds.ceu.edu/adc-2016. Abstracts of the presented papers can be downloaded from the same website. Access to the full papers presented at the ADC will be available for conference participants and registered audience upon request.

CEU’s Annual Doctoral Conference has been organized every year since 2006, providing opportunity to PhD students from CEU and partner institutions to present and discuss their research papers, test their ideas, while gaining valuable feedback from first class discussants.

The conference is open to the public, but is tied to registration at the following form: http://goo.gl/forms/2e0t0KeOJZ. Registered audience is requested to send their names, institutional affiliation, and the names of panels that they wish to attend. Participation at the conference is mandatory for the Doctoral Candidates of the Doctoral School.
