We are deeply saddened to report the passing of our student Artak Galyan, who died on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. He was 35 years old.
In addition to earning his MA, Artak was a PhD candidate at our program and teaching assistant with the CEU Department of Political Studies, where he forged many strong friendships with classmates and faculty. His career achievements included stints as a Fieldwork Coordinator with the Institute for Political and Sociological Consulting, and as an intern with the United Nations Development Program in Pristina, Kosovo, among others.
His dissertation on power-sharing institutions in post-conflict plural societies was well on his way of being completed when the tragic event occurred.
Artak was a close friend to many of us, everyone will miss his kindness, intellectual curiosity, and generosity.
Our most heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and classmates.
