"Finding a job with CEU PhD degree"

Lucia Kurekova (IRES PhD alumna (2011), Slovak Governance Institute in Bratislava)

Andrej Nosko (advanced PhD Student, Open Society Institute)

The session will discuss experiences in getting and finding academic and non‑academic jobs with a CEU PhD degree. It will be convened by Lucia Kurekova, IRES PhD alumna (2011), now based at the Slovak Governance Institute in Bratislava, and Andrej Nosko, advanced PhD Student, now working for the Open Society Institute as Senior Programme Officer.

We will share our own experiences and strategies in finding, taking and managing job(s) during the PhD studies and after defending your dissertation. We will critically discuss advantages and trade‑offs of working during your PhD studies and suggest strategies and tips for getting different types of experiences. We will also discuss steps that might assist you in having employment before or shortly after your graduation ceremony, explaining how your strategy might differ (or not) depending on type of work  you would like to do when you graduate (academic post, post‑doc, research position, visiting faculty, NGO work, international consultancy, working for the EU/World Bank).

Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
